La Passió de Esparreguera

From the 16th century the Great Theatre of La Passió has been acting in Esparreguera, reminiscent of the old, medieval 'autos'.

Surviving from the old 'autos', 'mysteries' and 'miracles' of European Medieval Theatre, plays such as the Pasión de Cristo are performed in this villa of the 16th century, produced and interpreted by theatre amateurs from the town, that sometimes the role of the same character gets handed down from father to son. These plays are performed in the Great Theatre of 'La Passió'. Divided into two parts and 48 scenes: public live of Jesus and Pasión, and the second: Death and Resurrection, morning and afternoon performances.
