Stations of the Cross in Easter week

Stations of the Cross in Easter week. Mérida

This thrilling procession takes place in the early hours of Easter Wednesday to Thursday in the city of Mérida (Extremadura )

The celebration begins with a procession in which the Medieval image of the Christ of the “O” is borne from the Procathedral of Santa María to the Roman Amphitheatre. This monument forms an integral part of Merida’s archaeological assets, leading to its declaration as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. Here, the Stations of the Cross are movingly re-enacted.
