New Year’s Eve in Pamplona

View of Pamplona-Iruña. Navarra

The inhabitants of Pamplona (Navarre ) welcome in the New Year by donning a range of different disguises as a kind of foretaste of Carnival.

The festive atmosphere revolves around the old part of town, although there’s also plenty happening in the San Juan and Iturrama districts. This custom of celebrating Carnival in advance is fairly recent in Pamplona, but it already has a large number of followers. All kinds of disguises – bold, classic, original, or caricatures of people currently in the public eye– throng the streets all night long and combine to create a spectacularly festive atmosphere.
